Telematics Overview
 |
Telematics refers to the
wireless exchange of information and content between motor
vehicles and service centers to provide safety & security,
concierge, entertainment and other services. In the past
five years, telematics applications have been offered as
product differentiators, primarily in new high-end vehicles.
With continued technology improvements and cost declines,
telematics has started to penetrate the mid to low-end
vehicles as well as being offered as an after-market
solution.
The technical market research firm Business Communications
Company predicts that sales in the telematics market --
including commercial and consumer applications -- as well as
hardware and service revenue are predicted to reach $6.5
billion by 2008.
Major OEMs have a variety of Telematics offerings with
differing capabilities including Safety & Security,
Navigation and Integrated Hands-Free capabilities. Over time
it is expected that these offerings will converge to
full-service telematics offerings combining the best of all
these functions. As a result of this convergence, aqLink® is
well positioned to enable the telematics market now, and
well into the future. With auto manufactures providing
safety and security services, navigation services coupled
with integrated hands-free capabilities, Airbiquity remains
the best alternative to enable the seamless transmission of
critical customer data over any cellular phone or network,
with the widest available coverage.
