CES 2018 was buzzing with new technology, fast-track startups, and informative presentations and product demonstrations. Popular topics included home automation, display technologies, artificial intelligence, and a continued focus on automotive. Airbiquity was very busy conducting OTAmatic presentations and demonstrations of over-the-air (OTA) software and data management in our Aria hotel suite and the Allstate (Arity) and Renesas exhibits at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC).

Cockpit-400.pngOTA presents an unprecedented challenge for automakers and suppliers: how to best manage the increasing complexity of planning and executing OTA software update and data management campaigns for millions of vehicles around the world. OTAmatic addresses this challenge with cloud-based service delivery including sophisticated back-end service management capabilities that allow automakers and suppliers to efficiently orchestrate and automate multi-ECU software update and data campaigns—at scale—with highly refined vehicle and device targeting, discrete policy and privacy controls, custom consumer notifications, and solution deployment flexibility. The following new OTAmatic features were debuted at CES 2018:

  • Edge Data Analytics Framework: OTAmatic now supports upgradable analytic modules from data analytics providers, and the anonymization and normalization of vehicle data for automaker and third-party value generation.
  • Consumer Purchasing: OTAmatic software updates enable consumer purchase of new features and services post-vehicle sale, and customizable consumer interactions via infotainment system and smartphone applications.
  • “Defense In-Depth” Security: OTAmatic’s end-to-end security approach spans confidentiality, integrity, authenticity, and availability leveraging standards-based certification, authentication, encryption, and the compromise-resilient Uptane software update security system for automotive (initiated and funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security).

Rajan Allstate combo.pngArity, a subsidiary of Allstate, was located in Allstate's North Hall exhibit. The two companies worked to integrate Airbiquity's OTAmatic™ OTA service delivery solution with Arity's driving behavior analytics modules to create a secure and highly scalable software update and data management demonstration that improves the processing of embedded data, both on the vehicle “edge” and in the cloud, for optimal driving behavior and analytics capabilities. The solution also allows automakers and their customers to draw actionable insights from vehicles in real-time without overburdening data transmission volumes and incurring extra expense.

Renesas tent and Taryn combo.jpgRenesas had a giant footprint at CES 2018 with a 300' x 300' street scape featuring autonomous vehicle rides and an adjacent tent with demonstrations of technology partner integrations. Our two companies worked together to integrate Airbiquity’s OTAmatic™ OTA service delivery solution with Renesas’ high-performance, low-power R-Car H3 system-on-chip (SoC) automotive computing platform. The combined solution is compliant with the ISO 26262 safety functionality (FuSa) standard, and offers a powerful, efficient, and secure automotive computing platform with highly targeted and scalable OTA software update and data management capabilities.
